Arms haul in north Kashmir

Baramulla, Feb 27 (UNI) Police foiled a militant plan to smuggle out arms and ammunition from Sopore to Srinagar when they seized a vehicle and arresed driver in north Kashmir last night.

A police spokesman said during a routine checking, the police stopped a vehicle at Aarampora naka check post, Sopore. During the search of the vehicle a cardboard box was found on the roof containing a large cache of arms and ammunition.

The recovered weapons included one AK-47 rifle, UBGL-15, AK Mag-01, AK Rounds-25, UBGL thrower-01, UBGL thrower without barrel-01.These arms were packed in a cardboard Box.

The arms were being taken to Srinagar. The driver has been arrested.

Centre, TN Govt 'lethargic' towards attack on fishermen: Jaya

Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Expressing concern over the increasing attacks on Indian fishermen by the Lankan Navy in the high seas, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today criticised the Centre and the state government for their lethargic attitude on the issue. SC/ST Commission to be set up on Apr 14: YSR

Hyderabad, Feb 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced the SC, ST Commission will be set up by April 14 coinciding with the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar. Responding to the anxiety expressed by several members on SC/ST welfare, Dr Reddy said a five-member team of officials would be sent to Maharashtra which was successfully utilising the SC/ST fund component. He also said efforts were on to pursuade CPI (M) Politburo Member B V.....

Two die in fire mishap

Vijayawada, Feb 27 (UNI) Two employees of Agri Gold office, where a fire broke out earlier in the day, were found dead in the bathroom here this evening. Fire department sources said the bodies of the employees were found in the bathroom by fire fighting personnel. Asphyxiation was said to be the cause for the death. The deceased were Durga Prasad, a computer operator and Hanumantha Rao, an attender. The bodies were shifted to Government General Hospital for post-mortem, the sources.....
