4,000 booked for anticipation of breach of peace

Siddharthnagar, Feb 27 (UNI) The administration has booked 4,000 persons in this district anticipating breach of peace in the coming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

''The administration is in no mood to take any risk. Therefore, 4,000 persons have been booked under anticipation of breach of peace.

Besides, 18 persons have been booked under the Gangster Act and three under the National Security Act (NSA),'' Superintendent of Police P K Srivastava said today.

Mr Srivastava added a large number of security personnel would be deployed at all senstitive and most sensitive polling booths.

The Election Commision has announced a seven-phase schedule for the elections to the UP Legislative Assembly, starting from April 7 and ending on May 8.

In Bulandshahr, voters will exercise their franchise in the second phase of elections on April 13.

AP Govt to adopt Maharashtra model of sub-plan for SC/STs

Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Taking a leaf from Maharashtra, the Andhra Pradesh Government have proposed to adopt a sub-plan for the betterment of Scheduled Castes and Tribes, Social Welfare Minister D Redya Naik said. A team of IAS officers would be shortly sent to Maharashtra to study the sub-plan for the weaker sections so that the same could be adopted in the state for implementation of welfare schemes for SCs and STs in a coordinated manner, he said in the assembly.....

BJP stops tantalising short of majority on own, seeking allies

Dehra Dun, Feb 27 (UNI) Riding on an anti-incumbency wave, the BJP is on the verge of returning to power in Uttarakhand, but seems likely to fall short of a majority on its own. With almost all the results in, the party has bagged 32 seats, far ahead of the Congress' 21, while the BSP has made a strong showing in the Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts, winning eight seats. The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) got two and independents won.....

Poll results to have impact on Centre: Chautala

Karnal, Feb 27 (UNI) Former Haryana chief minister and INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala today hailed the victory of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab and BJP in Uttarakhand and said it would have an impact on the Centre. Talking to UNI, he said the defeat of the Congress in Punjab and Uttarakhand would snowball into the formation of the third front at the Centre. The Congress was also poised to perform miserably in the forthcoming elections in Uttar.....
