22 lakh electorate in the district to exercise franchise in ZP

Pune, Feb 27 (UNI) The Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections will be held on March 11 and nearly 22 lakh electorate in the district will exercise their franchise, to elect 75 members of the Zilla Parishad (ZP) and 150 members of the Panchayat Samiti.

District Collector Prabhakar Deshmukh told mediapersons that 10,462 election officials will be engaged for election duty. The group of officials will monitor candidates to ensure that there is no violation of the model code of conduct.

Around 18 polling centre have been identified as 'very sensitive' and 133 as 'sensitive', he said. Around 1,400 candidate have filed their nomination papers and the last date of withdrawal is March three, the highest number of voters are in Haveli Taluka while in Vella taluka the figures are comparatively less, he said without giving any further details.

The District administration has taken the help and support of police for the smooth conduct of election, the Collector added.

Rs 4 lakh looted from retired govt employee's house

Anand, Feb 27 (UNI) Unknown persons have robbed Rs 4 lakh from the residence of a retired state government employee at Saghini village of Petlad taluka in the district. Ramanbhai Barot, in a complaint to the Petlad rural police yesterday evening, said he came to know about the robbery yesterday. He received Rs 40,000 from an investment in mutual funds and went to keep the amount in a cupboard. In which he had securely kept Rs 4 lakh of Rs 4.75.....

ayor's authority to co-opt members on civic body challenged

Goa govt to introduce computer aided teaching/learning in schools

Panaji, Feb 27 (UNI) Education Minister Luizinho Faleiro today said the state government was planning to introduce ''computer-aided interactive teaching and learning'' in all schools upto 12th standard. Mr Faleiro told reporters that Ghaziabad-based Jaiprakash Associates software company was preparing software for the project in all subjects. The system, however, was only optional and the department was advised to write to all the schools to elicit their willingness. Each school had to spend Rs 1.2 lakh for securing the software.....
