11 debt-ridden farmers commit suicide in Vidarbha

Nagpur, Feb 27 (UNI) Eleven debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in the last two days in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra, activists here said.

Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), a voluntary organisation working among farmers in the region, said the 11 farmers included two each from Amravati, Washim, Akola and Yavatmal districts, and one each from Wardha, Chandrapur and Buldhana districts.

With this, the number of farmers who have ended their lives this month has touched 77, VJAS said in a release here today.

The number of farmers who took the extreme step so far this year has touched 147, the release added.

HC asks Reliance Industries to deposit 10 cr

Mumbai, Feb 27 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today asked Reliance Industries to deposit Rs 10 crore with the state exchequer towards the differential amount of stamp duty payable in respect of the deed of amalgamation of erstwhile Reliance Petrochemicals into Reliance Industries. The Superintendent of Stamps had issued a notice on January 23 asking the company to pay the differential amount of Rs 10 crore, persuant to an order of the revenue authorities passed on December 30, 2006. 6 arrested for flesh trade

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 26 (UNI) A flesh trade racket was busted with the arrest of six persons, including four girls, during a police raid here. Assistant Commissioner of Police Eknath Budhwant said acting on a tip-off, the crime branch police raided a guest house located in city's posh Nirala Bazar locality late last evening after sending four dummy customers to the guest house. The owner of the guest house Ramesh Ghodke-Patil (27) and his Manager Santosh Jadhav (20) offered the dummy.....

Human skull recovered from abandoned place in Gujarat

Rajkot, Feb 27 (UNI) The police have recovered a human skull from an abandoned place on Jamnagar road here. Police today said they found the skull last evening after a dog dragged it from a nearby thick wood on Jamnagar road behind Railway colony. Police has sent the skull to Forensic Scientific Laboratory (FSL) for a detailed investigation to determine the gender of the skull and to ascertain whether it was a case of murder or not, police added.
