VVC to keep watch for infiltrators: SP

Cuddalore, Feb 26 (UNI) The police have decided to strengthen the Village Vigilance Committees (VVC) in 54 coastal villages of the state in order to to tighten the coastal vigilance.

In the backdrop of recent arms and explosives seizure from suspected LTTE elements, the VVCs would be strenghtened in order to keep a tight vigil in the coastal areas and report to the police on the movement of suspicious persons, new Superitendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Kumar today said.

Besides these, the VVCs would also work towards the improvement of people-police relations in the villages and prevent any untoward incidents.

Warning the anti-social elements, the SP said rowdyism would be tackled with an iron hand. Moreover, all steps would be initiated to bring down the accident rate in the district, he added.

Rail Budget growth-oriented: Chamber

Kochi, Feb 26 (UNI) Hailing the Railway Budget 2007-08 as a growth oriented one, the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry today praised the budget for giving emphasis on infrastructure development. Opposition alleges improper allocation of Budget for AP

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) The Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh today alleged that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had not provided sufficient budget allocations and new railway lines for the state. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government had neglected the state in the last three years. Agitation over Cauvery verdict continues

Mysore, Feb 26 (UNI) The agitation by farmers and others against the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal entered the 22nd day today in the Cauvery basin districts of Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajanagar.
