VTU to become paperless varsity soon

Nitte, Karnataka, Feb 26 (UNI) The Vishveshwariah Technological University (VTU) will shortly have e-campus and e-governance system to convert the varsity into a paperless one, its Vice-Chancellor Balaveera Reddy said today.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a new campus of Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management and a colloquium on 'Emerging India - Issues and Concerns' here, he said the university, which had the distinction of being the first in the country to network all its 123 affiliated institutions through EDUSAT, had taken up a pilot project of conducting online examinations this year. If other higher educational institutions affiliated to the varsity came forward to join the online exam, the university would extend this facility. VTU had availed three channels of EDUSAT for interaction with affiliated institutions, conducting online exams and for administrative purposes, he added.

The VTU had plans to have twinning programmes with some foreign universities and a few American universities have evinced interest, he said.

Prof Les Ebdon, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the University of Bedfordshire, UK, who inaugurated the new campus and colloquium, said transnational education had attained much importance with the world shrinking with the global village concept. As 65 per cent of the Indian population was under 35 years, India was becoming younger, while Western countries, including the UK, were growing older. This gave better opportunities to young Indians with a world class education system to play a vital role not only globally, but also contribute to the economic development of their nation.

On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Bedfordshire University and Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management for two twinning programmes in MBA and Computer Science, besides staff exchange programme.
