New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) To improve safety and security in the wake of the recent blasts on Samjhauta Express, Railways would install door frames and hand-held metal detectors, CCTVs and smart video cameras to detect explosives at many sensitive divisions. Number of trained dogs will be increased in the existing squads, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced in his budget speech in the Lok Sabha today.
Eight thousand vacancies will be filled in the RPF on all India basis.

Claiming that the number of railway accidents have decreased even as there has been a substantial increase in volume of traffic, Mr Prasad said the majority of Special Railway Safety Fund Works will be completed by March 2007. Balance will be completed by March, 2008.

General Managers have been empowered to sanction subways costing upto Rs 50 lakh on unmanned level crossings for reducing accidents.
