UPA hails Lalu's rail budget, oppn says J'khand cheated

Ranchi, Feb 26 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda and allies of ruling UPA today praised Railway Minister Lalu Prasad's budget, while opposition termed it as 'imbalanced,' saying it was merely an attempt to cheat the people.

Mr Koda eulogised the Railway minster's effort saying the budget was progressive. He appreciated the slash in ticket fares.

The Chief Minister, however, felt more trains were required for the state.

He said he would urge the Railway Minister to ensure fast implementation of the pending projects in the state.

Reacting strongly to the budget, Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda (BJP) said the budget only dampened the people's aspirations as it was Jharkhand friendly.

Mr Munda, also the leader of opposition, said Jharkhand being the major revnue generator was given only one new train which was very negligible.

State Congress President Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu said the budget was balanced and for common man, howwever, adding more trains should have been announced for the state.

The state RJD also hailed Mr Prasad's budget.

CPI(ML) polit buro member and in-charge of Jharkhand Swadesh Bhattacharya criticised it saying it was typical of Lalu to mislead people which was actually an effort to usher in privatisation of the railway.

Police track e-mail threat source; one held

Centre allocates Rs 1,140 crore for NE under BRGF

Aizawl, Feb 26 (UNI) The Centre has allocated Rs 1,140 crore, under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF), for the northeast region, official sources said today. The Centre has also decided to spend an additional Rs 15 crore in each of the districts of the country for infrastructure development. Sources said that the centre would support 250 districts, including 76 districts of NE region for development, education, healthcare, rural transportation, irrigation, rural electrification and drinking water facilities under BRGF. ATTF militant arrested in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 26(UNI) A hardcore militant, involed in the massacre of 15 non-tribal people in Tripura's West district in 2003, was arrested from South Gokulnagar village under Teliamura police station. Police sources here today said Sonaicharan Debbarma, who was absconding after the massacre at Kalyanpur under Khowai sub-division of West district on August 14, 2003, was nabbed by police on Saturday.
