Two naxalites killed in encounter in Gadchiroli

Nagpur, Feb 26 (UNI) Two naxalites were killed in an encounter with the police in the forests of Gadchiroli district in Vidarbha region today.

According to the police, the encounter occurred in the jungles near village Sokela in Bhamragadh tehsil of the district this morning during a combing operation by three police patrol parties.

The combing was being carried out after receiving information that around 40 naxalites were camping in the area, the police said.

The naxalites opened fire on the patrol parties, and the police returned the fire. The encounter lasted for about half an hour, a police press release said. The naxalites fled into the jungle when they found the police gaining the upper hand.

The police later recovered the bodies of two naxalites and some explosives, 3 detonators, 2 cartridges, some bags, a steel box, four water bottles and three pairs of footwear from the spot, the press release added.

Berhampur, Orissa, Feb 26 (UNI) At least seven passengers were killed and 20 injured when a private bus carrying them overturned on the Kalinga Ghat near Andharkot, about 110 km from here today. Police said the mishap occurred when the bus with more than 50 passengers was on its way from Muniguda to Berhampur. The driver of the bus lost control while negotiatig a curve on the Kalinga ghat and the vehicle overturned and slipped 200 feet down. Five passengers.....

Rail budget "disappointing" for Orissa: Naveen

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today described Mr Lalu Prasad's railway budget as a ''jugglery of data with false projection of profit and gimmicks.''
