Two debt ridden farmers end lives in Akola

Akola, Feb 26 (UNI) Two farmers committed suicide in the last 24 hours in Akola district, despite the special packages for farmers implemented by government agencies.

According to police, a 30-year-old farmer Santosh Mahadeo Dandle of Paras village, near here, committed suicide by hanging himself at his house yesterday.

He is survived by his wife, a son and parents, police said. His dead body has been sent for post-mortem to the Akola hospital.

Mr Someshwar Gangaram Sarkate (55), resident of Wani village in Rambhapur committed suicide by hanging from a tree yesterday, police said.

He was possessing four acres of agricultural dry land and was debt ridden. He was also worried about the marriages of his three daughters, family sources said.

SC seeks explanation from CBI on Quattrocchi's extradition

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the CBI to explain within a week the steps taken by it for the extradition of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, the main suspect in the Rs 64 crore Bofors gun scandal, from Argentina to India. New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Describing the recovery agents employed by the Multinational Banks (MNBs) as thugs, hooligans and gangsters, the Supreme Court today held that this country is governed by the ''rule of law'' and the banks cannot employ goondas to take possession of property or vehicles by force. SC extends deadline for CBI keeping Vipin Khanna's passport

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The Supreme Court today extended till March ten for returning the passport of an NRI, Vipin Khanna, whose company in India and abroad are under CBI investigation in the Food-for-oil scam, exposed by the Volckar Committee report. The CBI has been opposing the petition of Khanna, a relative of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh, for release of his passport on the grounds that he was required for interrogation for his alleged involvement in the scam,.....
