Train enquiries at local call rates across country soon

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) People will soon be able to make train enquiries at local call rates from any part of the country by dialling a common telephone number.

The facility will be available from June to September in all the four regions of the country, Railway Minister Lalu Praasd Yadav announced in the Lok Sabha today while presenting the Railway budget for 2007-2008.

By dialling 139 at enquiry call centres to be established soon, passengers will be able to obtain information about arrival and departure of trains, seat availability and so on at local call rates from any part of the country.

The call centres will have international facilities like SMS alert. In future these centres will provide several services like Railway ticketing, taxi booking and hotel booking.

Cushions of comfort for the poor in New Railway budget

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The poorest of the poor travelling in the unreserved second class compartment will now have some cushions of comfort, promises the new Railway Budget presented today. Besides, it has announced more facilities for other categories of passengers too. The wooden berths in the unreserved second class compartments will be replaced by cushioned seats. New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced a bonanza for train travellers spanning all categories of trains, reducing passenger fares and introducing eight new 'Garib Raths' and no across-the-board increase in freight rates, yet indicating a cash surplus of Rs 20,000 crore by playing on the volume game. Fare reduced for newly-designed sleeper class

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced a general reduction in fare by four per cent in the newly-designed sleeper class coaches. This reduction will be applicable during both lean and peak seasons, he said while presenting his fourth Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha. Mr Yadav said the fares for the newly designed AC-3 tier and AC Chair Car coaches would be reduced by 8 er cent in lean season and 4 per cent in peak.....
