Teledata acquires 51 per cent from eSys technologies

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) The city-based Teledata Informatics Limited, a leading technology solutions provider, has acquired 51 per cent stake from the Singapore-based eSys technologies with an investment of 105 million Dollars.

The new entity, to be called as Teledata Technologies, with eSys as its subsidiary, would set up a six acre Total Business Offshoring (TBO) unit in Chandigarh with an initial investment of Rs 75 crore, which would be scaled up to Rs 200 crore in the next two years.

The facility would come up at Rajeev Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park and would have a workforce of 500 in the first phase. It would be ramped up to 2000 in the next couple of years.

The construction works would begin next month and the facility would become operational by the end of this year, Teledata Informatics Managing Director K Padmanabhan and eSys CMD Vikas Goel, who would become the CEO of the new entity, told newspersons here today.

TBO was a concept pioneered by eSys which believed that technology innovators or brand owners should focus on their core capabilities and outsoruce non-core peripheral activities which were transactional in nature to get higher efficiencies.

Replying to questions, Mr Vikas said the new entity would set up two PC manufacturing facilities under eSys brand at Himachal Pradesh and in South India.

The facility in Himachal would have a capacity to produce 1.2 million PCs per annum to cater to the domestic market. ''We will manufacture both low cost and hi-end PCs and the low cost PCs will be priced at around Rs 10,000'', Mr Vikas said.

''Once the Himachal unit becomes operational, the smaller facility in Delhi will be downsized and phased out'', he added.

He said the location in South India would be decided after the Budget and after studying the prevailing taxation system. ''We are in talk with all the three Governments -- Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, he added.

''A decision will be taken soon'', Mr Vikas said.
