Slogan-shouting as Lalu read out Railway budget

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad presented his fourth railway budget in the Lok Sabha today even as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led- opposition continued shouting slogans throughout his one-hour-long speech.

Refusing to be interrupted by the sloganeering which occasionally assumed a high pitch, Mr Lalu Prasad rather sought to attract the attention of the Opposition Members standing in the well of the House by frequently gesticulating towards them.

Many a time, Mr Prasad retorted in his characteristic manner.

Towards a shouting opposition member, he said " Tera Baap chor hai".

The main slogans raised by the Opposition that rocked the House throughout the presentation of the rail budget were: "Comission Chora di Sarkar Nahi Chaleygi', 'Quattarocchi maamaa ko vapas lao', gali gali mei shor hai..Quattarocchi chor hai', UPA government hai hai".

UPA chairpeson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee were present in the House, occupying front row of Treasury benches. They frequently clapped along with other Treasury members when Mr Prasad raised his voice to announce no hike freight and reduction in passenger fares.

Samajwadi Party (SP) which had joined BJP-led opposition in slogan-shouting when Lalu Prasad began reading out his rail budget staged walk-out from the House after half-an-hour.

Fare reduced for newly-designed sleeper class

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced a general reduction in fare by four per cent in the newly-designed sleeper class coaches. This reduction will be applicable during both lean and peak seasons, he said while presenting his fourth Railway Budget in the Lok Sabha. Mr Yadav said the fares for the newly designed AC-3 tier and AC Chair Car coaches would be reduced by 8 er cent in lean season and 4 per cent in peak.....

E-ticket charges cut by Rs 10 and Rs 20 for sleeper, AC seats

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) To encourage booking of rail e-ticket through the Internet, the per e-ticket charge for sleeper class has been reduced from Rs 25 to Rs 15 and AC classes e-tickets from Rs 40 to Rs 20 under the Union Railway Budget for 2007-08. Recognising the popularity of the e-ticket scheme, the Railways hopes to boost the scheme by reducing the charges. 23 trains to be extended

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced extension of 23 trains and increase in the frequency of 14 other trains. Presenting the Railway Budget for 2007-08 in the Lok Sabha, he said 4517/4518 Allahabad-Ambala Cantt Unchahar Express would be extended up to Chandigarh and 207/208 Tirupati-Guntakal Passenger up to Hubli. Extension of other trains: Train no 2315/2316 Sealdah-Ajmer Ananya Express upto Udaipur, 2105/2106 Mumbai-Nagpur Vidarbha express upto Gondia, 1103/1104 Agra Cantt-Nizamuddin Intercity express upto New Delhi, 9165/9166.....
