Scam of Rs 900 crore in irrigation dept

Lucknow, Feb 26 (UNI) Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Uttar Pradesh assembly has hinted towards a scam to the tune of Rs 900 crore in the state irrigation department by awarding contract through illegal means.

PAC chairman and former state minister Omprakash Singh in a letter to assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey alleged he has received written charges of irregularities in the state irrigation department for granting contracts worth over Rs 900 crore through MoUs and not by issuing tenders.

Mr Singh said during his investigation, it was found of the total amount, Rs 700 crore were given to UP Project Corporation Limited, while rest Rs 200 crore were given to other corporations without giving tenders.

The PAC chairman claimed the government suffered direct financial loss of Rs 200 crore, due to non-issuance of tenders.

Mr Singh also took strong expection for speaker not allowing the PAC to table its report on the scam in the assembly.

J and K police arrest youth posing as militant

Srinagar, Feb 26 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a youth who was indulging in extortion by posing as militant in north Kashmir. Two killed, three injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 26 (UNI) Two persons were killed and three others wounded in different accidents in the Kashmir valley today, a police spokesman said. He said a speeding tipper hit pedestrian Abdul Rashid Ganie at Chooru, Sopore, about 50 km from here in Baramulla district today. Rs 4000 cr schemes announced in Sirsa rally

Chandigarh, Feb 25 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the people of the state would benefit to the tune of over Rs 4,000 crore by way of various welfare schemes announced by him in the Sirsa rally yesterday.
