Sankararaman murder case hearing deferred till March 20

Puducherry, Feb 26 (UNI) Puducherry Principal Districts and Sessions Judge M Chinna Pandi, hearing the Sankararaman murder case in which Kanchi acharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijeyendra Saraswathi are the prime accused, today posted the hearing of the case for March 20.

When the case came up before the court, 11 of the 24 accused, including the seers, failed to turn up and separate petitions citing the reasons for their absence were filed by their counsels.

Following this, the judge posted the case for March 20.

It may be recalled that the proceedings in the case could not be taken up here as the Supreme Court had stayed it on a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the defence. The matter is still pending before the apex court.

NUHS convocation Feb 28

Vijayawada, Feb 27 (UNI) The annual convocation of NTR University of Health Sciences (NUHS) will be held at Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram here tomorrow. Speaking to UNI here, an university official said Indian Council of Medical Research Director General N K Ganguly will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address while NUHS Vice-Chancellor R Sambasiva Rao would preside. Chancellor and Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Rhakur will not be attending the convocation due to pre-occupation, he said. The university will confer.....

Four die after consuming spurious liquor

Balurghat(West Bengal), Feb 27 (UNI) Altogether four people died after consuming spurious liquor today. Police said that three more persons are presently battling for their lives in the hospital. An angry mob had ransacked and damaged the liquor shop from where the spurious drink was bought. UNI.....

Puducherry, Feb 27 (UNI) CITU volunteers here today took out a procession from Indira Gandhi Square to Labour Commissioner's office and held a demonstration to press their demands.
