Berhampur, Orissa, Feb 26 (UNI) At least seven passengers were killed and 20 injured when a private bus carrying them overturned on the Kalinga Ghat near Andharkot, about 110 km from here today.

Police said the mishap occurred when the bus with more than 50 passengers was on its way from Muniguda to Berhampur.

The driver of the bus lost control while negotiatig a curve on the Kalinga ghat and the vehicle overturned and slipped 200 feet down. Five passengers died on the spot while two others died at the G Udayagiri Community Health Centre.

Kandhmal Collector Gangadhar Singh and G Udayagiri block development officer S N Behera rushed to the accident site to supervise the rescue operation.

The injured were shifted to the Bhanjangar and MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

Maoists attack check post, loot four police rifles

Gaya, Feb 26 (UNI) CPI (Maoist) activists attacked the Suryamandal checkpost under Dhobi police station and decamped with four rifles and 100 live cartridges after overpowering the policemen here today. Police said the extremists also looted two guns and 12 live cartridges from a nearby petrol pump while retreating after looting the rifles from Suryamandal check post.
