Reduction in fares of various categories in the new Rly Budget

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) In a step that will bring relief to the common man, fares of sleeper classes in the new design high capacity coaches have been cut by four per cent in the 2007-08 Railway Budget presented today in the Lok Sabha.

The fares of AC classes have been reduced by two to eight per cent and fares of second class in ordinary passenger and non-superfast mail/express trains cut by Re one.

Besides superfast charge on second class tickets has been reduced by 20 cent(from Rs 10 to Rs 8).

AC first class travel will now cost three per cent less in the busy season and six per cent less in the lean season. A reduction of two per cent in the busy season and four per cent in the lean season has been introduced in the AC two-tier.

There has been reduction in fares for all classes of high capacity new design reserved coaches.

AC three tier and AC CC will now cost four percent less in busy season and eight per cent less in lean season. while sleeper classes ticket will cost four per cent less in all seasons.

These discounts will be applicable in popular trains throughout the year.

Tourist tickets will be introduced in Mumabi suburban services with the facility of unlimited travel.

Besides charges for e-tickets booked on the internet have also been reduced.

Freight for petrol, diesel, wheat, fertilisers cut: Lalu

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) In a move aimed at easing inflation, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced a freight rate cut of five per cent on diesel, petrol and ammonia and six per cent on iron ore and limestone and an additional 30 per cent discount on the freight rates for wheat, fertilisers and cement. While there is no across the board increase in freight rates in the Railway Budget 2007-08 presented in the Lok Sabha, the Minister announced.....

Lalu gives credit for good showing to Rly staff

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Attributing the turnaround in the Railways to the hard work of its 14 lakh employees and the utmost affection and support of the countrymen, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad toay likened the ''miracle'' to the mythological lifting of the Govardhan mountain by Lord Krishna. ''When faced with a crisis, Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhan with his finger, he was called Girdhar. Freight on transporting fertilizers, grains kept low

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The freight rate for transporting foodgrains and farm inputs has been kept in low class of 120 with increasing discount announced in the Rail Budget 2007-08 for incremental loading bagged consignments of wheat, fertilizers and cement loaded in open wagons to 40 per cent. Earlier, the discount on loading in empty flow direction was 20,30 and 15 for wheat, fertilizers and cement. The reduction in the tariff will also bring down the freight for diesel,.....
