Rane describes railway budget as 'people friendly'

Panaji, Feb 26 (UNI) Describing the Union Railway Budget for 2007-08 as 'people friendly', Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane said, ''It is so far the best budget.'' ''The Rs 20,000-crore cash surplus made by the railways is a landmark in the history of the Indian Railways and introduction of special trains for the poor christened 'Garib Rath' indicated the love and consideration the Centre accords to the masses,'' he said.

The railway journey will be more pleasant now with the budget providing for incentives to the common man for whom it is a regular mode of transport, Mr Rane added.

Opposition disrupts Guv's speech in Budget Session

Guwahati, Feb 26 (UNI) The Budget Session of the Asom Assembly began today on a noisy start with the Opposition forcing the Governor to conclude his address in less than two minutes, alleging gross failure of the government on all fronts. Governor Lt Gen. (retd) Ajai Singh dwelt on the 'resurgence' of the state, emphasising that Asom's financial recovery and success in bringing insurgent groups to dialogue was being recognised all over before he was shouted down by the combined Opposition......

Six killed in road accident in Jharkhand

Hazaribagh, Feb 26 (UNI) Six people, including four women, were killed and nine other injured when a trekker carrying them collided with a dumper under Vishnugarh police station of the district today. Police said the accident occurred on Bagodar-Vishnugarh road near Choutha area. Four people died on spot and two succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, they said. One of the injured had been sent to district Sadar hospital, while the rest were undergoing treatment at the Vishnugarh Referral hospital......

Berhampur, Orissa, Feb 26 (UNI) At least seven passengers were killed and 20 injured when a private bus carrying them overturned on the Kalinga Ghat near Andharkot, about 110 km from here today. Police said the mishap occurred when the bus with more than 50 passengers was on its way from Muniguda to Berhampur. The driver of the bus lost control while negotiatig a curve on the Kalinga ghat and the vehicle overturned and slipped 200 feet down. Five passengers.....
