Railways to give free training in African countries

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The Railways have extended the facility of imparting free training to the Railway persons of African countries in the current financial year, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav told the Lok Sabha today.

Presenting the Railway Budget for the year 2007-08,he said the programme for training of BIMSTEC and Mekong Ganga countries launched by Indian Railways had been widely acclaimed. Taking this initiative further the Railways had further extended the training facility.

The Minister said the Indian Railways had signed a memorandum of understanding with Italy, Russia and South Africa to promote bilateral cooperation. The Railways were promoting the Look East policy of the Government.

The Chairman ,Railway Board,he said, had been elected first Chairman of Asian Railway Association.The Indian Railways were also playing an important role in the functioning of the International Railway Union and Railway Board Chairman had been elected first non-European president of the UIC.

Lalu gives credit for good showing to Rly staff

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Attributing the turnaround in the Railways to the hard work of its 14 lakh employees and the utmost affection and support of the countrymen, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad toay likened the ''miracle'' to the mythological lifting of the Govardhan mountain by Lord Krishna. ''When faced with a crisis, Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhan with his finger, he was called Girdhar. But the mountain was supported, in the process, by thousands of villagers with their lathis,''.....

Freight on transporting fertilizers, grains kept low

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The freight rate for transporting foodgrains and farm inputs has been kept in low class of 120 with increasing discount announced in the Rail Budget 2007-08 for incremental loading bagged consignments of wheat, fertilizers and cement loaded in open wagons to 40 per cent. Earlier, the discount on loading in empty flow direction was 20,30 and 15 for wheat, fertilizers and cement. The reduction in the tariff will also bring down the freight for diesel,.....

Lalu lowers fares, freight rates in Rail Budget

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today presented a passenger-friendly budget -- the fourth in a series -- announcing lowering of train fares and slashing by five per cent freight for diesel and petrol, while taking care not to hike freight rates acroos-the-board. The bonanza for travellers spanned all categories of trains, differential discounts in airconditioned class during busy and lean seasons, and introduction of eight new 'Garib Raths' as well as 32 new trains.
