Rail budget satisfies major needs of trade and industry: BCC

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) The Bihar Chamber of Commerce (BCC) today lauded the Rail budget, saying it would fulfil a lot of expectations of trade.

BCC president O P Sah said no hike in freight rate despite ever increasing cost of fuel was indeed a big relaxation for business and industry.

Cut in freight rates for diesel and petrol, construction of freight corridor stations, reduction in the freight of iron ore and lime stone, introduction of new rail lines to aid steel power plants, huge railway investment for container operations will definitely give a big boost to the economy of the country.

He also hailed the reduction in passengers' tariff.

Welcoming the introduction of scheme of E-Tickets through ATMs, he hoped the proposed system of providing rail tickets and reservation at places of public importance such as petrol pumps would be based on public private partnership.

Thanking the Railway Minister for proposing new electric loco works unit at Madhepura and wagon bogie complex at Dalmia Nagar, he said all rail workshop projects should be made completely functional as early as possible.

ATTF militant arrested in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 26(UNI) A hardcore militant, involed in the massacre of 15 non-tribal people in Tripura's West district in 2003, was arrested from South Gokulnagar village under Teliamura police station. Police sources here today said Sonaicharan Debbarma, who was absconding after the massacre at Kalyanpur under Khowai sub-division of West district on August 14, 2003, was nabbed by police on Saturday. The banned All Tripura Tiger Force(ATTF) militant had come to his in-laws' house at South Goklunagar when he was.....

Sandalwood smuggler shot at

Mysore, Mar 15 (UNI) The city police shot at an alleged sandalwood smuggler, who attempted to attack the police personnel, in the city today. Police said based on a tip-off about cutting a sandalwood tree on the premises of the Postal Training Centre here, police attempted to catch a fleeing smuggler Ravi. He opened fire at the police in an attempt to escape and the police retaliated. Ravi was admitted to the K R Hospital and operated upon for bullet.....

Guv stresses increase in CD ration in J'khand

Ranchi, Feb 26 (UNI) Expressing concern over low credit-deposit ratio in Jharkhand, Governor Syed Sibtey Razi today said the banks should stick to the norms clearly framed in this regard. Inaugurating the new office building of Syndicate Bank at Hazaribagh road, the governor pointed out that only 40 per cent of the total deposit was spent in the state. He said according to existing norms, the banks were required to spend 60 per cent of the total deposits for developmental activities.....
