Rabri congratulates Lalu for "people-oriented" Rail budget

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Lauding Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for presenting a ''people-oriented'' budget, former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi today said the interests of all sections had been properly taken care of.

Talking to newspersons here, Ms Rabri Devi, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said lowering of fare was a gift to the passengers.

She thanked Mr Prasad for according special attention to the women as they had been given additional facilities.

She said cleanliness in the trains and on the platforms and safety and security of the passegers were possible only with the cooperation of the commuters.

To a query regarding the profit the railway was generating even without enhancing THE fare, she said it was an ''open secret''.

Demonstrating YC activists arrested

Kolkata, Feb 26 (UNI) Altogether 29 youth Congress activists were arrested when they staged a demonstration in front of the state Secretariat today in protest against the alleged killing of a party supporter by a police officer in Katwa of Bardhaman district yesterday. Seed testing laboratories to be set up in 31 districts

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Bihar government today announced to set up seed testing laboratories in 31 districts in the current fiscal. While replying to starred question of BJP member Giriraj Singh in the Assembly, state agriculture minister Naredra Singh said about five districts already have one seed laboratory each. Carbide waste: Centre directed to deposit Rs one crore for cleaning

Jabalpur, Mar 14 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today directed the Centre to deposit in the state government's account half the amount of the total expenditure of Rs two crore on cleaning the toxic waste of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy from Union Carbide factory premises.
