Punjab Cabinet recommends dissolution of state Assembly

Chandigarh, Feb 26 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today approved the dissolution of the 12th state Legislative Assembly for paving the way for the constitution of 13th Legislative Assembly.

This decision was taken in the last meeting of the Cabinet held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The dissolution was recommended under Sub Clause (b) of Clause (2) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India.

The Cabinet decision will be conveyed to state Governor Lt Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues by the Chief Minister later in the day or tomorrow when counting of votes to 116 of the 117 assembly segments is taken up. The results are expected to be out by noon tomorrow, after which the Chief Minister is expected to submit his resignation to the Governor.

Punjab Cabinet approves land transfer for Knowledge City

Chandigarh, Feb 26 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today approved the transfer of 400 acres of land in Mohali to the Union Government for the establishment of a Knowledge City. This Knowledge City will comprise four institutions--- Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Nano-technology, National Institute of Agri-Food Biotechnology and Premier Management Institute. Congress walkout over murders in Bastar

Raipur, Feb 26 (UNI) Congress members today staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, alleging that the government failed to check a spurt in murders in the tribal Bastar region where naxals have a strong presence. Temps dip, Rajasthan cool and pleasant

Jaipur, Feb 26 (UNI) Minimum temperatures in Rajasthan continue to remain below normal and are accompanied with cold winds, making the weather pleasant and cool. According to Met office, no rains have been recorded over the past 24 hours in the state. The state capital recorded a high of 26 degree Celsius while the minimum was 12 degree.
