Punjab Cabinet approves land transfer for Knowledge City

Chandigarh, Feb 26 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today approved the transfer of 400 acres of land in Mohali to the Union Government for the establishment of a Knowledge City.

This Knowledge City will comprise four institutions--- Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Institute of Nano-technology, National Institute of Agri-Food Biotechnology and Premier Management Institute.

This decision was taken at the last meeting of the Cabinet held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

Scam of Rs 900 crore in irrigation dept

Lucknow, Feb 26 (UNI) Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Uttar Pradesh assembly has hinted towards a scam to the tune of Rs 900 crore in the state irrigation department by awarding contract through illegal means. PAC chairman and former state minister Omprakash Singh in a letter to assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey alleged he has received written charges of irregularities in the state irrigation department for granting contracts worth over Rs 900 crore through MoUs and not by issuing tenders......

UP minister let off with reprimand in bounty case

Lucknow, Feb 26 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey today let off Minister of State for Minority Welfare in the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, Haji Yakub Qureshi with a reprimand for announcing a bounty on the head of Danish cartoonist, who had lampooned Prophet Mohammed.
