Pawan Goenka appointed Chairman of new JV company

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) Dr Pawan Goenka has been appointed Chairman of the new Joint Venture company promoted by auto majors Mahindra and Mahindra, Renault and Nissan.

This was announced by Mr Keshub Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd at a press conference here today.

Mahindra and Mahindra would hold 50 per cent equity in the JV, while the balance would be held by the other two companies.

The JV has been formed to establish a utility vehicle and car manufacturing facility with an initial investment of Rs 4,000 crore at Oragadam SIPCOT Industrial Park near here, which would be India's biggest vehicle manufacturing centre at a single location.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed today in the presence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

Dr Pawan is the President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra and Mahindra.

He has been conferred with the outstanding international advisor award by SAE in 1997 and Burt L Newkirk award in 1987 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for his contribution to the field of tribiology.

Besides he was also presented the extraordinary accomplishment award from General Motors in 1986.

Call money ends low at 6.10-6.20 pc as RBI hand seen in forex mkt

Mumbai, Feb 27 (UNI) Interbank call money today ended 5 basis points lower at 6.10-6.20 per cent, compared with 6.05-6.15 per cent in view of the Union General budget to be tabled tomorrow. Consistent intervention by the RBI in the forex market has brought in ample amount of cash in the market, traders said. Intra-day, the rates moved between a low of 6.00 per cent and a high of 6.20 per cent. Call rates are expected to ease or open.....

MTNL pays Rs 106 cr dividend to govt

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) State-owned MTNL today gave a cheque of Rs 106 crore to the government as an interim dividend for 2006-07 on a paid-up equity capital of Rs 630 crore . ''Our profits have went up to Rs 432 crore. The mobile revenues is up to Rs 599 crore from Rs 399 crore and the broadband revenues has witnessed a significant rise to Rs 140 crore from Rs 35 crore,'' MTNL CMD R S P Sinha told reporters......
