NPF to win both by-poll seats in Nagaland: Rio

Touphema, Feb 26 (UNI) Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has said Nagaland Peoples' Front (NPF) will win Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar II seats, where bypolling would be held on March 8, following death of the candidates of these assembly constituencies.

Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of the Sekrenyi festival of Angami tribe here last afternoon, Mr Rio has ruled out any misunderstanding among the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) alliance partners although all the alliance partners were fielding their own candidates.

He said it was necessitated due to voting pattern in Nagaland, which was not comparable to any part of the country. Areas are dominated by clans of various tribes, who will elect candidates even ignoring party affiliation.

PNB launches scheme for women

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Ahead of the International Women's Day tomorrow, Punjab National Bank (PNB) has launched a scheme to empower women in rural and semi-urban areas by encouraging them to undertake income-generating activities. The scheme 'PNB Kalyani Card Yojna' aims at providing hassle free credit to women for self-employment generation in traditional or newer sustainable productive activities. The PNB Kalyani Card will be issued for three years for meeting working capital requirement of agriculture/allied agriculture activities/ non-farm activities.....

NCP releases candidate's list for Meghalaya assembly polls

Shillong, Feb 27 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today officially declared the names of their 13 party candidates for the Meghalaya Assembly polls scheduled to be held next year. Former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP leader Purno A Sangma, who is leaving national politics and stake claim for chief ministership, is contesting from Tura assembly constituency, NCP state president W R Kharlukhi told reporters here. Mr Sangma's decision to return to Meghalaya politics and stake claim for chief ministership.....

TMMK activists demand reservation for Muslims

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Activists of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) today held a protest rally, demanding reservation for Muslims in educational institutions and employment opportunities in Central as well as State government departments. The TMMK workers were joined by activists of other organisations, including All India United Muslim Morcha and the Dalit Muslim Liberation Movement. The rally commenced at Ramlila Ground and proceeded towards Jantar Mantar where it was stopped as prohibitory orders are in place......
