NCO looses foot in mine blast;militant hideout busted in Poonch

Jammu, Feb 26 (UNI) A Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) of the Army lost his foot in a mine blast while Rashtriya Rifles (RR) troops recovered a huge quantity of explosives from a militant hideout in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, a defence spokesman today said.

Lance Naik Jholimav lost his foot after he stepped on an anti-personal mine accidentally while carrying out maintenance of the mine drain in Bump III, North-East of the district, the spokesman said.

''His foot below right ankle was blown off in the incident,'' the spokesman said, adding the amputation was carried out at the Army Medical Unit.

Also, based on a tip-off, troops of Romeo Force recovered a cache in general area Phagwari, Poonch, comprising three radio sets, three anti-personnel mines and two Remote Control IEDs and warlike stores, the spokesman added UNI VJ KD RK2145

Assembly thanks PM for approving Semiconductor Policy

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly today thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran for approving the Semiconductor Policy, which would facilitate setting up of a number of Fab units and Solar Fab in the Fab City located near the International Airport here. Lankan Navy kills Indian fisherman

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) An Indian fisherman was shot dead and another sustained bullet injuries when Sri Lankan Navy personnel opened fire in the midsea last night. According to reports received at the police headquarters here today, a group of six fishermen, hailing from Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu, had ventured into the sea for fishing early yesterday. The escaped fishermen, who returned to the shore this morning, said the Lankan Navy opened fire without any provocation, killing one of them.....

VVC to keep watch for infiltrators: SP

Cuddalore, Feb 26 (UNI) The police have decided to strengthen the Village Vigilance Committees (VVC) in 54 coastal villages of the state in order to to tighten the coastal vigilance. In the backdrop of recent arms and explosives seizure from suspected LTTE elements, the VVCs would be strenghtened in order to keep a tight vigil in the coastal areas and report to the police on the movement of suspicious persons, new Superitendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Kumar today said.
