Luggage rates in ordinary passenger trains cut by 60 p c

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Luggage rates in ordinary passenger and less popular mail and express trains will be slashed by up to 60 per cent under the Railway Budget for 2007-08.

The Railways has decided to rationalise luggage rates in trains where offers for SLRs have not been received despite calling for open tenders at scheduled rates and where utilisation of capacity is less than 60 per cent.

Under the present luggage rate structure, luggage rates for all trains are 20 per cent higher than the parcel rates applicable for Rajdhani trains.

In fact, the parcel rates for Rajdhani trains are three times the parcel rates for ordinary passenger trains.

Freight on transporting fertilizers, grains kept low

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The freight rate for transporting foodgrains and farm inputs has been kept in low class of 120 with increasing discount announced in the Rail Budget 2007-08 for incremental loading bagged consignments of wheat, fertilizers and cement loaded in open wagons to 40 per cent. Earlier, the discount on loading in empty flow direction was 20,30 and 15 for wheat, fertilizers and cement. The reduction in the tariff will also bring down the freight for diesel,.....

Lalu lowers fares, freight rates in Rail Budget

Rly TTEs to get palm tops for instant feed about vacant berths

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Palm tops will be given to Railway Travelling Ticket Examiners(TTEs) so that they can feed to the Passenger Reservation System(PRS) the information about berths/seats falling vacant at the eleventh hour. Under the existing system, reservation charts are brought out a few hours before the departure of trains. Often due to unforseen circumstances, several passengers with reservations do not travel, resulting in many berths remaining vacant. Since this information is not fed into the PRS system, many.....
