LoC system being abolished in MP

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has proposed to abolish the Letter of Credit (LoC) system in all departments from April this year.

Announcing this during presentation of the 2007-08 Budget in the Assembly today, Finance Minister Raghavji said that the change was being effected on the basis of suggestions received during ministerial consultation with administrative officials in order to tone up administration.

''Now the delay being faced by works departments in getting budgetary allocation through the government treasury will be done away with,'' Mr Raghavji said adding that electronic tendering in works departments had been started.

In order to bring about qualitative improvement in administration, it was proposed to establish a school of good governance and policy analysis at Bhopal. Permanent lok adalats would be set up in 43 districts for speedy disposal of cases, Mr Raghavji said.

Tax on diesel reduced in MP

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Maintaining the tax buoyancy after implementation of Value Added Tax, the Madhya Pradesh government has reduced VAT on diesel making it cheaper by 75 paise per litre while entry tax on several goods was raised from half to one per cent to net Rs 54 crore, Finance Minister Raghavji told the Assembly today. Cong walkout over murders in Bastar

Raipur, Feb 26 (UNI) Congress members today staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, alleging that the government failed to check a spurt in murders in tribal Bastar region where naxals have a strong presence. Replying to a question by Ms Renu Jogi (Cong), Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam admitted that -- compared to 2005 -- there was a 20.14 per cent increase in cases of murder in 2006 because of the rise in insurgent activity. Cong walkout over jobs for locals in Tata project

Raipur, Feb 26 (UNI) Congress members today staged a walkout in the Chhattisgarh Assembly alleging that adequate provision was not made in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for providing employment to locals at a proposed integrated steel plant, of the Tata group, to be set up in tribal Bastar.
