Lankan Navy kills Indian fisherman

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) An Indian fisherman was shot dead and another sustained bullet injuries when Sri Lankan Navy personnel opened fire in the midsea last night.

According to reports received at the police headquarters here today, a group of six fishermen, hailing from Nagapattinam district in Tamil Nadu, had ventured into the sea for fishing early yesterday.

The escaped fishermen, who returned to the shore this morning, said the Lankan Navy opened fire without any provocation, killing one of them on spot and injuring another.

The injured was admitted to a government hospital.

Kochi, Feb 26 (UNI) Hailing the Railway Budget 2007-08 as a growth oriented one, the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry today praised the budget for giving emphasis on infrastructure development. Opposition alleges improper allocation of Budget for AP

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) The Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh today alleged that Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had not provided sufficient budget allocations and new railway lines for the state. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government had neglected the state in the last three years.
