Lalu raking in money without strengthening infrastructure: BJP

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The BJP today said the Railways was trying to rake in more money by increasing the freight capacity which would pose problems to it in the coming years, besides endangering the structure.

BJP Parliamentary Party Spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the Railways had totally neglected the infrastructure allocations and had not invested on purchase of anti-collision equipment needed for avoiding accidents.

He said the claims of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had proved ''hollow'' as he converted even slow running trains as 'super fast express' by increasing their speed marginally and started claiming higher passenger fares under this pretext.

Mr Malhotra accused the Minister of attempting to make money using land belonging to Railways for construction of malls and other projects meant for the rich.

The party had indulged in slogan shouting when the Rail Budget was presented in the Lok Sabha by Lalu Prasad.
