Judgement in Shahabuddin's case on March one

Siwan, Feb 26 (UNI) A special court, constituted inside the jail campus here for speedy trial of the cases faced by incarcerated RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, today reserved its judgement for March one in connection with an attack on CPI(ML) office in 1998.

First Class Magistrate of the special court V B Gupta today reserved his judgement after completion of arguments of both prosecution and accused.

The case was related to an attack on a CPI(ML) office at Khurmabad Mohalla under Mufassil polioce station by Mohammad Shahabuddin and his associates in 1998.

Two persons killed in road mishap

Krishnagar, Feb 27 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and three others critically injured when a truck overturned near Gede on the Indo-Bangla border here. Police was attributed the accident to the bad conditions of the roads. According to sources, CPWD was carrying construction work of the road. However, the condition of the road deteriorated following sunday's downpour. Driver of the truck, Bharat Biswas(29), died on the spot. The four labourers on board were rushed to the Krishnagar.....

PCC plea to Pondy Govt on VAT

Puducherry, Feb 27 (UNI) The Puducherry Chamber of Commerce (PCC) today urged the administration to provide compensation to traders in the form of grant or subsidy for the levy of four per cent Central Sales Tax (CST) if the government introduced Value Added Tax (VAT). In separate letters to Lt Governor Mukut Mithi and Chief Minister N Rangasamy, PCC President N Govindasamy said the administration had taken steps for introduction of VAT beginning April one making CST levy unnecessary. SC grants week's time for response to govt's new ads policy

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The counsel for the petitioner in a PIL seeking a ban on government advertisements glorifying political leaders today told the Supreme Court that there was nothing new in the government's new advertisement policy. Mr D K Garg told a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran that the new policy, a copy of which was supplied to him the day before yesterday contained nothing new and was only a clever reiteration.....
