Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch march to Raj Bhavan on delimitation

Ranchi, Feb 26 (UNI) The Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch today marched to Raj Bhavan here expressing concern over the Delimitation Commission's proposal to reduce SC/ST seats besides exclusion of dome town areas in Ranchi and Jamshedpur from scheduled areas.

Hundreds of JJM activists from diffrent districts gathered at the historic Morabadi ground and took out a rally that culminated near the Raj Bhavan.

The rally then turned into a public meeting where several speakers expressed their views.

Later on a delegation led by JJM president Jagdish Lohra met Governor Syed sibtey Razi and handed over a memorandum.

First woman mayor for RMC

Rajahmundry, Feb 26 (UNI) Ms Adireddy Veera Raghavamma of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was today unanimously elected as the first woman mayor of Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation (RMC) here.

During the election, 31 corporators raised their hands in support of Ms Raghavamma.

Election Special Officer and East Godavari Collector M Subramanyam administered oath of office and secrecy to 50 corporators earlier.

Later, Mr B S Prasad also of the TDP was unanimously elected as deputy mayor.

Replying to a question, Mr Munawwar Hasan, however, said that he would not be tendering resignation from the SP, nor from Parliament. ''It is for the SP to do what it wants to. I just don't feel the need of submitting my resignation,'' said Mr Hasan. ''After all neither Mr Natwar Singh and nor Mr Raj Babbar resigned from their parties,'' quipped Mr Singh in a lighter vein.

TN CM failed to protect basic rights on Cauvery water: Vaiko

Coimbatore, Feb 26 (UNI) MDMK general secretary Vaiko today alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had failed to protect the basic rights of the state on the sharing of river waters before the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal.

Talking to newspersons here, he said immediately after the Tribunal gave its Final verdict on the water issue, Mr Karunanidhi had announced that the state had got its due share. However, he changed his stand later on the issue.

Newly elected Councillors sworn in

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) The newly elected councillors of the Chennai Corporation, except four DMDK members, were sworn in today.

The Corporation Commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni administered the oath of office in the presence of Deputy Mayor R Sathyabama.

Councillor Sardar, who had defected to DMK after getting elected in DMDK ticket from Ward 27, also took oath.

The former Mayor M Subramanian, who was elected unopposed, was the first to take the oath.

TDP demands Govt display GO 938 files

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today demanded the State Chief Secretary to show the 'notefiles' of the media gag order GO 938, which endorsed a check on defamatory and baseless media reports.

A delegation of the TDP MLAs led by the party senior leader N Janardhan Reddy met Chief Secretary J Harinarayana at his chambers in the Secretariat and demanded his show the notefiles of the GO which was cancelled by the Government, following protests from.....
