Hamas leader Meshaal arrives in Moscow for talks

Moscow, Feb 26 (UNI) Head of the politburo of the Palestinian Islamic group 'Hamas', Khaled Meshaal arrived here today to hold talks with the Russian officials on the recently-crafted Makkah accord, designed to settle inter-Palestinian problems, and prospects of lifting the Israeli blockade.

''We are in Russia to discuss the results of the agreement on the formation of a national unity government in Palestine, which was recently reached in Mecca,'' Meshaal told newspersons on his arrival in the Russian capital.

He said, ''We lay weight on Russia's position about lifting of the economic blockade on Palestine.'' Accusing Israel of delaying direct negotiations in order to to create a Palestinian state, Meshaal said ''Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas recently met with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, but the meeting produced no results. Olmert has nothing new to propose.'' Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry said during talks with the Hamas delegation, Russia will ''continue its efforts to facilitate the work of restoring stability in the Palestinian territories and resolve inter-Palestinian disagreements in the context of the Mecca agremment and with due account of the Quartet-proposed criteria''.

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The Communist Party of India-Marxist today urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to provide more budgetary allocation to Medak District to complete the Singure Irrigation Project for providing water to irrigated lands besides meeting the drinking water needs. Tory leader leads with 11-point: survey

London, Feb 27 (UNI) A survey today has put Tory leader David Cameron in an 11-point lead, enough to put Conservatives in power in Britain. The CommunicateResearch Poll for The Independent puts the Conservatives on 40 per cent (up six points since January), Labour unchanged on 29 per cent, and the Lib Dems on 17 per cent (down four points). Residents hold fast on land acquisition for SEZ

Kancheepuram, Mar 13 (UNI) Residents of Oragadum today observed a day's fast to condemn the government's move to acquire land for automobile special economic zone (SEZ) to be established at the SIPCOT Industrial estate. As many as 1,000 people, including 300 women, participated in the agitation organised at the Oragadum-Chennakuppan Junction. Traders closed shop to express solidarity with the agitationists. According to the residents, the authorities are in the process of acquiring 2,500 acre of land for the project and letters.....
