Guv stresses increase in CD ration in J'khand

Ranchi, Feb 26 (UNI) Expressing concern over low credit-deposit ratio in Jharkhand, Governor Syed Sibtey Razi today said the banks should stick to the norms clearly framed in this regard.

Inaugurating the new office building of Syndicate Bank at Hazaribagh road, the governor pointed out that only 40 per cent of the total deposit was spent in the state.

He said according to existing norms, the banks were required to spend 60 per cent of the total deposits for developmental activities which was only 40 per cent in the state.

He urged the banks to take note of the lapse.

The governor also stressed the need of simple rules and regulations to facilitate common people to benefit from their services without much hindrance.

Two killed in police firing in Bihar

Patna, Mar 16 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and several injured today when police opened fire to disperse an unruly mob indulging in arson and damaging public property at Matihani block in Begusarai district. Police said some anti-socials tried to disturb the scheduled programme of distributing ration coupon to those living below poverty line, and in the process the hooligans ransacked the block office before setting fire to the building. Since repeated warning to refrain from violence failed.....

Life imprisonment to criminal Ashok Mahto

Nawada, Mar 16 (UNI) A fast-track court today handed down imprisonment for life and slapped a fine of Rs 20000 to a criminal Ashok Mahto for murdering a Nawada Sub-Jail guard. After concluding the hearing in the case the judge delivered the verdict. As per the case, Ashok Mahto, in connivance with other inmates of the jail, had killed Sashibushan Sharma and injured another Lalan Singh on December 23, 2001. Later Ashok Mahto along with seven other prisoners had escaped.....

Man gets lifer for killing spouse for her refusal to cook meat

Dumka, Mar 16 (UNI) A local court today sentenced life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife after she refused to cook chicken for him. The incident took place on March 19 last year when Uttam Kumar ordered his spouse Jayanti to cook chicken that he wanted to take with liquor. According to the prosecution in Jharkhand's Dumka district court, as Jayanti refused to oblige, he beat her to death using a stick and a knife. UNI.....
