Graveyards to be cordonned off to stop encroachments: Nitish

Patna, Feb 26(UNI) As a permanent solution to the problem of encroachments, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced to cordon off all the graveyards in the state.

Mr Kumar said the government has framed a new policy, simplifying the old ones, to cordon off the graveyards.

The District Magistrates had been directed to prapare the list of the graveyards in their jurisdiction on the basis of their locational importance, he added.

He assured the members of the House that Rs 5 crore has been earmarked for the purpose as a token provision which would be utilised as per the requirement.

The CM had also announced to improve the condition of cremation grounds.

Earlier, several members of the Lower House, including amchandra Purvey of RJD, Amarendra Pratap Singh of BJP, Rajendra Prasad Singh of CPI and others had raised the issue of encroachment of graveyards in the state.

Ivory smugglers sent to jail

Dehra Dun, Mar 15 (UNI) Two people, who were arrested by the forest officials for allegedly smuggling two elephant ivories weighing 19.1 kg in Rasulpur area in Rajaji National Park on Tuesday, were sent to jail after being produced before a court today. DFO Chila Range Girija Shankar Pandey yesterday said on a tip-off, a team of Forest Range Officers raided village in Rasulpur in Haridwar district at 2200 hrs and arrested Shankar Datt and Jagdish Chandra and recovered the ivories.....

Kolkata experiences warm day

Kolkata, Feb 26 (UNI) Kolkatans experienced a warm day with the minimum temperature hovering around 18.9 degree Celsius today. Rainfall of around 4.4 mm was recorded yesterday, Met sources said.
