Demonstrating YC activists arrested

Kolkata, Feb 26 (UNI) Altogether 29 youth Congress activists were arrested when they staged a demonstration in front of the state Secretariat today in protest against the alleged killing of a party supporter by a police officer in Katwa of Bardhaman district yesterday.

The YC supporters, who gathered in front of the central gate of the Writers' Buildings violating the prohibitory ordrs, suddenly started shouting slogans and waving flags.

They were demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the police officer, who had allegedly made the 'unprovoked firing' on the Congress supporter during the polling for the governing body of a local college.

Varanasi, Mar 15 (UNI) In a major haul, the police here today seized a truck-load of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 10 lakh being smuggled into the city from Haryana. Police said during a routine check in the Chandpur area under Manduadih police station a truck bearing the registeration number (HR 55 C 6224) was stopped. Seed testing laboratories to be set up in 31 districts

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Bihar government today announced to set up seed testing laboratories in 31 districts in the current fiscal. While replying to starred question of BJP member Giriraj Singh in the Assembly, state agriculture minister Naredra Singh said about five districts already have one seed laboratory each. Replying to another short notice question of RJD member Mundrika Singh Yadav, Mr Singh said national horticulture mission had been implemented in East Champaran, West Champaran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Purnea, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar,.....

Carbide waste: Centre directed to deposit Rs one crore for cleaning

Jabalpur, Mar 14 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today directed the Centre to deposit in the state government's account half the amount of the total expenditure of Rs two crore on cleaning the toxic waste of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy from Union Carbide factory premises. Man held for murder attempt on ex-DMK councillor

Kancheepuram, Mar 15 (UNI) Police today arrested a 37-year-old man here this morning on charges of attempting to murder Former DMK Councillor Elangovan. Police said here today Elangovan and Babu had previous enemity. Last night, duo had heated arguments during which Babu took out a knife and inflicted serious wounds on the former councillor.
