Co-operative Banks, Societies to generate Rs 600 cr

Kozhikode, Feb 26 (UNI) The Rs 30,000 crore Co-operative Banks and Societies in Kerala would mop up an additional Rs 600 crore for development activities through a special campaign during the fiscal 2007-2008.

The amount, to be generated by the 28th Co-operative Deposit Collection Campaign would be utilised for the overall development of the state, Reception Committee Chairman M Mehboob told reporters here today.

State Cooperation Minister G Sudhakaran would inaugurate the campaign here on March one, he added.

The Kerala State Co-operative Banks, District Co-operative Banks, Urban Co-operative Banks, Primary Agricultural Co-operative and Farmers Societies would actively participate in the campaign, he said.

State Co-operative Banks offered comparatively higher interests on deposits than the private sector commercial banks, he claimed.

OC of Amta police station suspended

Howrah, Feb 22 (UNI) The Officer-in-charge of Amta police station Rajiv Ranjan Singh was suspended today for dereliction of duty. Howrah Police Superintendent Niraj Singh said the OC was suspended after he was found guilty of not informing the higher officials on time about a scuffle between two families in Mullapara of Chandrapur village on Tuesday. The victim who was critically injured in the row was admitted to the SSKM hospital where she died yesterday. The Superintendent had also ordered.....

Mala Mahanadu urge CM to constitute Dalit committee

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) State Mala Mahanadu today urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy to constitute a Dalit committee for their overall development in the state. The delegation, led by its State President J Prabhakara Rao, today met Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum to look into the problems of the Dalits in the state.
