CM inaugurates Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign

Puducherry, Feb 26 (UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy today inaugurated the 13th edition of the Bharat Nirman Public Information campaign here today.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Rangasamy said the territorial administration would pay special attention for the implementation of the Central government schemes in the Union Territory. Several industries would be set up here with the Centre's permission, he added.

Puducherry administration would implement all the announced schemes before the commencement of the next Assembly Session, he added.

He said steps were being taken to start a Government Engineering College in Karaikal region and the construction of the Government Medical College building in the next academic year, and steps were being taken to get the MCI approval.

Stating that it was highly essential that the public should know all the government schemes, Mr Rangasamy said that it should be propagated through television and cinema. The administration had taken all steps to provide all facilities to the rural people and added that the financial assistance to construct houses under the Perumthalaivar Kamaraj Housing Scheme had been enhanced to Rs one lakh from Rs 50,000, and 21,000 houses were constructed in the last three years.

The Chief Minister who detailed several schemes of the government for the upliftment of the downtrodden people said the percapita income of Puducherry had gone up to Rs 61,000 from Rs 42,000 and the percapita medical expenditure was Rs 1070. The growth rate of the Union Territory was 13 per cent when compared to the national average of 8 per cent.

Abondoned briefcase creates flutter

Puducherry, Feb 22 (UNI) An unclaimed briefcase at a counter in the office of the BSNL General Manager here caused a flutter today. The briefcase, which was lying in front of the counter for more than two hours, created commotion that it may contain explosives. On information Grand Bazaar police with bomb disposal squad, metal detector and sniffer dog reached the spot. After careful examining they opened the briefcase only to find clothings inside. Bomb threat call turns hoax

Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) An anonymous phone call, received by the railway police, informing of a bomb in the Chennai Central - Coimbatore express train turned out to be hoax, here last night. Railway police sources said the railway police received the call when the train was about to leave.
