Bypolls overshadow MP Budget

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) While presenting Madhya Pradesh's 2007-08 Budget in the Assembly today, state Finance Minister Raghavji today said that new schemes for five districts were not included in the proposals as the electoral process was underway there.

''As per the Election Commission's guidelines, schemes for Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri, Raisen and Sidhi were not included,'' he said.

Gwalior and Sidhi (ST) parliamentary constituencies and Udaypura Assembly seat are to witness bypolls on March 8.

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The City Metropolitan Sessions Court today began prosecution in the sensational murder case of Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vyas who was murdered 13 years ago at L B Stadium in the city. Raghavji trumpets achievements in Assy

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister Raghavji today said in the Assembly that the state was addressed as 'bimaru' and backward until three years back but the situation transformed afterwards as President A P J Abdul Kalam himself awarded the state for the fatest progress rate. ''Outstanding achievements were made in implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Prime Minister's Rural Roads Scheme, production of pulses, oilseeds and soybean,'' he said while presenting the 2007-08 Budget. Suspended police official allegedly manhandled

Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) A personal staff of Chief Minister today allegedly attempted to manhandle a senior police official, now under suspension, waiting to meet the Chief Minister to request him to revoke his suspension. Official sources said the suspended Police official Muthukaruppan, who got an official appointment to meet Mr Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence, was waiting for his turn to meet the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, a personal staff, who saw the official, got agitated and shouted slogans against him.....

Spanish scientist missing case: Eight people taken into custody

Mangalore, Mar 14 (UNI) Eight people were today taken into custody in connection with the suspected death of a Spanish scientist, reported missing since last few months in Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. Police said the scientist, Francisco Albert Belil, who had come to Kadirudyavar forest area in Belthangady in June last year for a study on forests, went missing since last few months. His family members in Spain had alerted the Indian Government through the Spanish.....

Woman SI found hanging

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Mar 14 (UNI) A woman Sub-Inspector, attached to the Vridachalam police station, allegedly committed suicide last night. According to police, 32-year-old R Sumathi was found hanging in the police quarters where she was staying. Tension prevailed following the death of the woman police officer as public resorted to a blockade alleging that she was murdered and hanged by the family of another sub-inspector of police Murali, as Sumathi had a quarrel with the Murali's wife last night before.....
