BJP MLA booked for assaulting MSEDCL engineer

Nagpur, Feb 26 (UNI) The police have booked a BJP MLA Uttam Ingle for allegedly assaulting an official of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) in Yavatmal district in Maharashtra over the action initiated against a consumer for power theft.

Police said the complainant, Assistant Engineer Ashok Gopal Narkhede (47), stated that on Saturday Ingle and some of his supporters assaulted him at the Fulsawangi sub-station, where he is posted.

Ingle was enraged that Mr Narkhede had slapped a huge fine on a consumer who was found allegedly stealing power, he said, adding that the MLA wanted the matter to be hushed up.

However, when the engineer refused to heed to his demand, Ingle and his supporters assaulted Mr Narkhede, who later lodged a complaint with the police.

Following the complaint, Mahagaon police yesterday registered a case under sections 353, 323, 394, 294, 504, 506 and 34 of IPC.

No arrest has been made so far, police added.
