ATTF militant arrested in Tripura

Agartala, Feb 26(UNI) A hardcore militant, involed in the massacre of 15 non-tribal people in Tripura's West district in 2003, was arrested from South Gokulnagar village under Teliamura police station.

Police sources here today said Sonaicharan Debbarma, who was absconding after the massacre at Kalyanpur under Khowai sub-division of West district on August 14, 2003, was nabbed by police on Saturday.

The banned All Tripura Tiger Force(ATTF) militant had come to his in-laws' house at South Goklunagar when he was arrested.

Police, acting on a tip-off, led by SDPO Sanjay Roy, cordonned the village. The militant made an abortive attempt to flee but he failed to do so as the security personnel followed and captured him.

A 25-member armed ATTF insurgents had attacked Gokulnagar village in 2003 and shot dead 15 people. Sonaicharan was the main accussed in the case.

Meanwhile, two hardcore militants of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura(NLFT-BM) have surrendered before the SDPO of Jirania, about 15 km from here yesterday, and deposited a revolver.

Security forces have captured four collaborators of the ATTF and NLFT from different parts of West and Dhalai Districts respectively.

While two people were arrested from Kalyanpur and Teliamura police station areas in West District, the remaining two others were captured from Kachuchara police station area under Dhalai district.

Two killed in police firing in Bihar

Patna, Mar 16 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and several injured today when police opened fire to disperse an unruly mob indulging in arson and damaging public property at Matihani block in Begusarai district. Police said some anti-socials tried to disturb the scheduled programme of distributing ration coupon to those living below poverty line, and in the process the hooligans ransacked the block office before setting fire to the building. Life imprisonment to criminal Ashok Mahto

Nawada, Mar 16 (UNI) A fast-track court today handed down imprisonment for life and slapped a fine of Rs 20000 to a criminal Ashok Mahto for murdering a Nawada Sub-Jail guard. After concluding the hearing in the case the judge delivered the verdict. As per the case, Ashok Mahto, in connivance with other inmates of the jail, had killed Sashibushan Sharma and injured another Lalan Singh on December 23, 2001. Later Ashok Mahto along with seven other prisoners had escaped.....
