Assembly thanks PM for approving Semiconductor Policy

Hyderabad, Feb 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly today thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Communications and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran for approving the Semiconductor Policy, which would facilitate setting up of a number of Fab units and Solar Fab in the Fab City located near the International Airport here.

In a resolution, the Assembly also thanked UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for her 'unstinted support and guidance' in this regard.

The House earlier rejected by voice vote the amendment proposed by TDP Deputy Leader Nagam Janardhana Reddy and BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy, to remove the name of Ms Gandhi from the resolution.

The resolution said the policy would be immensely useful for the development of Semiconductor Manufacturing Industry in Andhra Pradesh.

AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi thanked the state government for locating the Fab City near the backward old city, creating employment for the poor residents of the area.

One fisherman killed, another injured in Lankan firing

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) An Indian fisherman, hailing from Akkarapettai in Nagapattinam district, was killed and another sustained bullet injuries when Sri Lankan Navy personnel opened fire near Kodiakkarai in the midsea, early today. The deceased fisherman was identified as Kaliyaperumal (57), sources told UNI. He sustained bullet injuries in the chest and head.
