Advocates abstain from work in Patna civil court

Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Lawyers of Patna civil court today abstained from their work in protest against the killing of an advocate, Upendra Paswan, under Mashaurhi police station in the district on February 24.

In an emergency meeting held here under the chairmanship of district bar association president Jai Prakeash Singh, the advocates urged the state government to pay a compensation of Rs five lakh to the dependents of the victim.

They also demanded a government job for an eligible member of the victim's family.

Bihar young lawyers association also held a meeting and demanded compensation.

Widow beaten to death by in-laws

Puri, Feb 26 (UNI) A widow living in Keutunga village under the Gop police station was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws on Saturday night on the suspicion that she was suffering from the dreaded AIDS. Patna, Feb 26 (UNI) Sleuths of State Vigilance Bureau today arrested industrial extension officer of Banka, Shambhunath Bhagat, from his office for accepting Rs 4000 as bribe. An associate of the officer, Rajeev Ranjan Jha, was also arrested during the raid. Two persons killed in road mishap

Krishnagar, Feb 27 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and three others critically injured when a truck overturned near Gede on the Indo-Bangla border here. Police was attributed the accident to the bad conditions of the roads. According to sources, CPWD was carrying construction work of the road.
