23 trains to be extended

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced extension of 23 trains and increase in the frequency of 14 other trains.

Presenting the Railway Budget for 2007-08 in the Lok Sabha, he said 4517/4518 Allahabad-Ambala Cantt Unchahar Express would be extended up to Chandigarh and 207/208 Tirupati-Guntakal Passenger up to Hubli.

Extension of other trains: Train no 2315/2316 Sealdah-Ajmer Ananya Express upto Udaipur, 2105/2106 Mumbai-Nagpur Vidarbha express upto Gondia, 1103/1104 Agra Cantt-Nizamuddin Intercity express upto New Delhi, 9165/9166 Ahmedabad-Faizabad Sabarmati Express up to Varanasi, 4649/4650Amritsar-Darbhanga Saryu Yamuna express upto Jai Nagar (after gauge conversion), 2705/2706 Secunderabad-Vijayawada Express up to Guntur, Shikohabad-Farrukhabad passenger up to Kasganj (after gauge conversion), 3185/3186 Sealdah-Darbhanga Gangasagar express upto Jai Nagar (after gauge conversion) and 364 Kottayam-Thiruvananthapuram passenger upto Nagercoil.

Luggage rates in ordinary passenger trains cut by 60 p c

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Luggage rates in ordinary passenger and less popular mail and express trains will be slashed by up to 60 per cent under the Railway Budget for 2007-08. The Railways has decided to rationalise luggage rates in trains where offers for SLRs have not been received despite calling for open tenders at scheduled rates and where utilisation of capacity is less than 60 per cent. New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) In a move aimed at easing inflation, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced a freight rate cut of five per cent on diesel, petrol and ammonia and six per cent on iron ore and limestone and an additional 30 per cent discount on the freight rates for wheat, fertilisers and cement. While there is no across the board increase in freight rates in the Railway Budget 2007-08 presented in the Lok Sabha, the Minister announced.....

Lalu gives credit for good showing to Rly staff

New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Attributing the turnaround in the Railways to the hard work of its 14 lakh employees and the utmost affection and support of the countrymen, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad toay likened the ''miracle'' to the mythological lifting of the Govardhan mountain by Lord Krishna. ''When faced with a crisis, Lord Krishna had lifted the Govardhan with his finger, he was called Girdhar. But the mountain was supported, in the process, by thousands of villagers with their lathis,''.....
