Two extremists shot dead in encounter

Gaya, Feb 25 (UNI) Two suspected Maoists were killed in an encounter with the police at Sukhabigha village in Bihar's Gaya district today.

Superintendent of Police A K Jain said police also recovered one SLR, two rifles, 92 assorted cartridges, detonators and some other incriminating articles from the site of the encounter under Bazirganj police station in the district.

The rifles recovered were earlier looted by CPI(Maoist) ultras, he added.

The two-hour encounter took place when the extremists opened fire at a police team which was proceeding towards the hideout of the rebels.

A combing operation had been launched.

Wal-Mart set to enter India retail scene next month

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) The world's largest retailer Wal-Mart along with Bharti Enterprises is set to enter the India retail scene with its cash-and-carry venture to be finalised in the next few weeks, despite disturbances in political circles and trade unions. India preparing special package for LDCs: Nath

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) India is preparing a special market access package for the least-developed countries (LDCs), which would be announced shortly. According to Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath, the package for the LDCs has been submitted to the Union Cabinet for consideration. But, he said, it was a standalone package and had nothing to do with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) multilateral trade talks. Sanskrit is not only about religion and philosophy: Haksar

New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Contrary to popular perception that Sanskrit has relevance only with religion and philosophy, the ancient language has many other dimensions to it, asserts well-known diplomat-turned-Sanskrit scholar A N D Haksar.
