TN MPs meet in Delhi tomorrow to discuss CWDT award

Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) A meeting of the Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu would be held in New Delhi tomorrow to discuss the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal(CWDT).

The meeting was being held at the instance of Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi and it would be chaired by State PWD Minister Duraimurugan.

In a statement, here Mr Duraimurugan said the meeting was being held following reports that the issue would be raised in Parliament.

He appealed to all the MPs from the State to attend the meeting and convey their views.

Mr Duraimurugan left for New Delhi this evening to chair the meeting.

Free cycles to MP girls

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe girls studying in the sixth standard and higher in Madhya Pradesh will be provided bicycles free of cost, the government announced in the Assembly today. Presenting the Budget for 2007-08, Finance Minister Raghavji said that about 1.40 lakh girls who had to cover distances of more than a kilometre to reach schools were expected to benefit. About 1.18 lakh girls studying in high schools were benefited under an existing free cycle scheme......

Jogi smells a rat in power project deal

Raipur, Feb 26 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi today alleged that some vested interests were at work to ensure that a turnkey project of coal-based thermal power extension Stage-3 at Korba was allotted to a Chinese company with ''doubtful credentials'' thereby placing an avoidable burden of about Rs 750 crore on the state. LoC system being abolished in MP

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government has proposed to abolish the Letter of Credit (LoC) system in all departments from April this year. Announcing this during presentation of the 2007-08 Budget in the Assembly today, Finance Minister Raghavji said that the change was being effected on the basis of suggestions received during ministerial consultation with administrative officials in order to tone up administration. ''Now the delay being faced by works departments in getting budgetary allocation through the government treasury.....
