Phase-II unemployment allowance launched

Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu government here today distributed the second phase of unemployment allowance to unemployed youths in the state.

The programme was kickstarted by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi yesterday at Coimbatore, where he distributed unemployment allowance to about 7,000 youths.

On the occasion, Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said ''government would disburse Rs 150 for the students, who passed tenth standard, Rs 200 for the youths, who passed 12th standard and Rs 300 for the graduates''.

''During the first phase of this programme, about 2,06,766 unemployed youths received Rs 12,30,37,950, he said adding during the current second phase 1,03,629 youths were paid Rs 6,12,75,450''.

Mr Stalin also mentioned that more than three lakh male youth and more than two lakh female youth had registered their names in various employment exchange office across the region.

Bomb hoax at district court

Kottayam, Mar 13 (UNI) Panic prevailed at the district court here today following a bomb threat call, which turned out to be a hoax. Police said they received an anonymous call stating a bomb had been planted at the court. Police dog squad scanned the premises, but no explosive was found. UNI.....

TTD Board approves budget

Tirumala, Feb 25 (UNI) The Board of Trustees of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) today approved the annual budget for the financial year 2007-2008. After the Board meeting TTD Chairman B Karunakar Reddy told reporters here that the Rs 916 crore budget would accord priority to pilgrims amenties. He said, Rs 19.31 crore had been allocated for accommodation facilities while Rs 41.97 crore earmarked for Dharma Prachara Parishad Activities and Rs 150 crore towards salary and wages for the employees......

Four members of a family, including former actor arrested

Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) Four members of a family, including a former supporting actress of Bollywood, were arrested and stolen articles worth over Rs 13 Lakhs were recovered from them, Commissioner of Police Neelam Achutharao said today. Talking to newsmen here, he said Kamalesh, Priyanka, Suraj and Bollywood supporting actress Kavitha, posing as customers, had robbed gold and silver ornaments from shops in the city by replacing them with duplicate after diverting the attention of shopkeepers.
