Parts of Maharashtra experiences power failure

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) A technical snag at Padghi-Nagothane, which had resulted in tripping of power in parts of Maharashtra this evening, was rectified in phases after nearly four hours.

A major power failure had hit the Western and Konkan areas from 1635 hrs due to a technical snag which occurred while charging liner at Padghi-Nagothane.

According to Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) PRO Ram Dotonde, the technical snag developed while charging the liner at Padghi-Nagothane, resulting in tripping of all the power generation sets at Parli, while some at Chandrapur, Koradi and Nashik.

The situation in Navi Mumbai and other areas got back to normal at around 2030 hrs, while the entire power supply in the other parts of at state would be restored by 2200 hrs, he added.

Meanwhile, the state government has appointed an enquiry committee, headed by Maha Trans Co Director (Operations) Shishir Tamotia, to submit a report within three days on the power failure.

The power supply in the affected Western suburbs of Mumbai, where Reliance Energy supplies power, has been restored around the same time. The Reliance Energy's two supply lines, coming from Dahanu, were affected.

CII urges HP for removal of tax collection barriers at borders

MEA asks UGC to caution Indian students in Russia on security

Chennai, Mar 4 (UNI) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to advise students pursuing higher education in Russia to take adequate precautions for their personal security in view of attacks on Indian students. A circular to this effect was sent to the Registrars of all Universities in the country by the UGC, urging them to create awareness among the students, who have been sent by the Universities to Russia and those who are planning.....
