Man commits suicide for wife's refusal to pay for alcohol

Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) Upset over his wife not parting money for a gulp of drink, a 40-year-old man committed suicide by setting himself ablaze at Chintadripet area in the city last night.

Police sources said Chinnadurai, who was eking out a living by selling scraps, was a chronic drinker.

He picked up a quarrel with his wife demanding money for a drink.

As she refused, an upset Chinnadurai doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze.

He was rushed to the Government Hospital where he succumbed to his burns.

26 held for clash in temple festival

Puducherry, Feb 25 (UNI) Thavalakuppam police today registered cases against 26 persons allegedly involved in a clash at a temple festival here last night. According to police, the groups led by Vadivel and Kamaraj, clashed during the festival at the Angalamman Temple at Poornamkuppam near here. CID continued searches at Margadarsi Financiers HQ

Hyderabad, Feb 25 (UNI) The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has resumed its searches at the Margadarsi Financiers headquarters (HQ) here following the interim orders from the First Additional Metropolitan sessions Judge of a local court. The Judge directed the CID to open the office and carry out searches with the minimum required personnel in the presence of six authorised representatives of Margadarsi Financiers. Police save 489 cattle, arrest 14 persons in Amreli

Rajkot, Feb 26 (UNI) The police have arrested 14 persons near Amreli for allegedly ferrying 489 cattle in five trucks to a slaughter house at Surat. Police Sub Inspector B B Parmar today told UNI they had received an information that the cattle were being transported to Surat Slaughter House from Madressa in Amreli yesterday. Acting on the tip-off, a police team, led by Mr Parmar, mounted a vigil on the Amreli highway and intercepted the trucks carrying the livestock.....
