New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) India has a tremendous potential to pitch in for greater role in sourcing of new technologies by strengthening its capabilities and emerging as an R&D hub for the world, a study said.

The study conducted by Exim Bank has reviewed the R&D scenario in the country and said the investment in its activities has attained a level of Rs 21,639 crore in 2004-05, a share of less than one per cent in national GDP.

It has observed that R&D intensity of business firms in the country is around 0.5 per cent, however, the sectors like pharmaceuticals, automobiles, electronics and auto-components have greater intensity than others.

Strengthening innovation and education systems, skill development and enhancement, increasing government funding in R&D and seeking international cooperation in science and technology are the strategies to strengthen R&D capabilities in the country, the study said.

MP's Budget likely to focus on social sector

Bhopal, Feb 25 (UNI) Constrained by financial limitations, the Madhya Pradesh Budget 2007-08 is likely to focus on social sector and the implementation of public welfare schemes. In his fourth consecutive Budget to be presented in the MP legislative Assembly tomorrow, Finance Minister Raghavji may announce measures for increasing facilities in the social sector besides public welfare schemes instead of long-term schemes. Senior Economist R S Tiwari said the Finance Minister could be praised for not incurring expenditure beyond prescribed.....

Visakhapatnam, Feb 25 (UNI) The Prime Minister's trophy and Rs one crore would be awarded to the best Integrated Steel Plant in the country for the year 2005-06 A Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP) release said here today, nine intregrated steel plants were in the fray. The public sector plants were: Visakhapatnam Steel Plant of RINL, Bhilai Steel Plant, Bokaro Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant and Rourkela Steel Plant of SAIL. Four more flyovers in Chennai city: Stalin

Chennai, Mar 4 (UNI) Chennai city will soon have four new flyovers and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will lay the foundation stones for them, Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin announced today. Talking to reporters, after interacting with officials here, he said works on the four flyovers would begin in the next ten days and would be completed within 15 months.
